Summertime Reviews: Dana Point Harbor

Looking for something else to do besides riding around on your beach cruiser? (Which is really, all I do, except for this one time below:)
Goof off in the Dana Point Harbor with Kirk and Chelsea! That's what we did one fine sunny afternoon. Her dad's pimpin boat was parked there over fourth of july weekend, so we decided to race on the mega huge surfboard (what's the name of that thing, again?). We used the timer on Jason's I-Phone and each couple took a turn racing to the bridge and back. Then, we did relay races solo, which is pretty hard when the wind is not in your favor and you are laughing so hard at yourself that it starts to hurt to paddle. Not to mention, I have to admit that I had bad boat etiquette and cut off another boat trying to make it back to ours so I wouldn't be the loser! I can't remember who won that day, but I just remember it was fun.

Today we christened our bikes...

Might I introduce to you the two newest members of the deVilliers family:"his bike" and "my bike". We broke these bad boys in on a ride starting from 17th street in Huntington Beach down to Balboa. Our destination: Rubys (for the pumpkin shakes). Our letdown: No pumpkin shakes. The "Black Forest" shake, with cajun fries, had to suffice.
Again, I rest my case. October rocks down by the beach. What a picturesque day it proved to be. Those overcast clouds in the early am - don't let em fool you.

We have fun together.

Starting the summer time reviews.

First up, Dallan's 5th Birthday party!
The theme: Star Wars.
Everybody loves "Uncle Jason!" They got a kick out of us as we came out as Darth Vader and Princess Leah.

My new travel blog feature on www.elizamagazine.com

Eliza magazine posted my travel blog as one of their favorite travel blogs!

Look for my article on Cesky Krumlov under the blog entry "Travel memory"
Or, to go to my blog directly:

You may recognize it! I turned my old blog into a new one but am purely focusing on writing my own amateur travel articles. It's kind of a hobby of mine. I figure since I don't fly for free anymore, why not pursue becoming a travel journalist and then someone else can pay for me to travel! Well, I'm dreaming big but hey, I am keeping myself entertained!

Update on the deVilliers - we're having a great time as newlyweds! Busy, but good. Jason is all involved with season 3 of Yo Gabba Gabba. He's writing, editing, and directing an episode as well. As for me, I'm a nanny! After living the real "Devil Wears Prada" job of being this guys personal assistant, I now enjoying nannying for my nephew, Jack. He's 7 months old and his nickname is "roastbeef" because he is chubby and adorable. My sister Laura and her family moved to Newport. It's a great set up. I like to call my sister "boss" now! I get a kick out of it. More posts and pictures and updates to come!

"End of summer time" blues?

For many, the end of summertime brings a feeling of longing for those oh-so summer nights. Well, here's the top five reasons on my list why I am in glee that summer time is OVER!
1) Less crowds at our favorite beaches- Newport, Rivieras, or wherever your stomping grounds might be, will be less filled with families vacationing from out of town places. It will be possible to enjoy miles of sand with limited neighbors. Which brings me to reason numero dos:
2) 55 FWY is not a joke anymore- I like to drive to the end of my freeway on a sunny day without feeling that I am waiting in a line at Disneyland! Which brings me to reason number 3:
3) It's still hot, people!- For those of you who are in denial, whether you hate heat waves or sad about the summertime feeling abating, it is still sunny weather throughout October! That's why we pay in rent what most people pay in mortgage in the rest of the middle of the country.
4) Fall clothes - When it does cool down, let us give it up for walking boots, stylin' jeans, comfy sweaters, chic hats, and winter plaid coats. I don't know about you, but my husband finds these clothes much more sexy than summertime attire.
5) Last, and not least, CHEAPER travel!- Ah, the airfares are relaxing finally. For example, today Jetblue is having a one day sale starting at $29 dollars each way. My mind is already spinning at some weekend getaways with Jason.
So, if you are feeling the blues, cheer up, Charlie! There are plenty of things to with the end of summer in the works.
